My Students

I teach math, science, and social studies to fourth-grade students in a rural, Title I school. I am excited about my new group of students, who are innovative thinkers.

I am passionate about preparing students to be successful in their journey to becoming the leaders and problem solvers of tomorrow.

We are a small, rural school, with less than 300 students in kindergarten through sixth grade. Our teachers work hard to use engaging teaching methods and materials, but the lack of available funding is an issue due to our size. Our goal is to add motivation and excitement to learning each and every day. Resources are not easy to come by but necessary to foster the creativity and problem-solving skills necessary for success.

My Project

My students are exploring energy and renewable energy options and need supplies for STEM challenges to further explore this important concept. STEM challenges are beneficial to students, because they ask students to solve situations that are very real in today's world. My students enjoy the learning labs, which make a positive impact on the Engineering and Design Process component of the Next Generation Science Standards.

Makerspace and STEM Challenges give students opportunities to take real-world problems and be put in the engineer's seat to design solutions; adding materials to our existing Makerspace and STEM center is critical to keeping this space both exciting and functional to relate to our learning.

In addition to building a renewable energy source, students will have to purchase their supplies and keep their project within budget. We have some of the supplies needed in our Maker Space already, but we need Snap Circuits, copper wire, various materials to test conductivity and build a small generator. We will also use wind up flashlights and pull back cars to explore their "energy source". Please consider giving my students this reality check of real-world financial planning and donate to this project.
