My students are middle schoolers at a K-8 school . They are creative, hard-working and come from all walks of life. They love learning and their enthusiasm for education is inspiring to see. Since my students are becoming teenagers it is really exciting to see how they embrace their individuality, but also how they are fearless in the face of adversity. They want to stand up for what they believe in. They want to have their voices heard against racism, sexism and prejudice. They want to make a difference. Please help them recognize the power they have to lead this next generation!
My Project
Ancient Egypt is a fun topic for my sixth graders, but it becomes so much more memorable when you get to make art!
The people of Egypt are an intelligent people with a glorious history who left their mark on civilization.
While studying Egypt we will read and write about what we learn. We will play games and act out skits. We will also learn about hieroglyphics and learn to write our names. Students will get their own piece of papyrus, just like they'd have in Ancient Egypt for their hieroglyphic writing. That's why I'm asking for books to draw Egyptian hieroglyphics, and permanent markers to draw on the papyrus. Another project we'll do it a silhouette art project where students will draw Egyptian pharaohs in pastel. We need special metallic pastels for this project as well as construction paper to mount these art projects. A third project we'll do is create the Egyptian game of senet which is a dice-like game. We'll need the modeling clay and large popsicle sticks for each child to make their own game set. These experiences will really make Ancient History come to life and be meaningful!
