Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach thirty amazing 5th graders who come from different backgrounds, ethnicities, and levels of learning. My goal is to have the students come together as one group. Through reading, exploration, and classroom discussion the students will be able to see they can come together and make a difference.
My class will be exploring, imagining, and creating all year long.
The students will work hard all year to create an unforgettable year. Each student is capable and deserving of a top level education.
My Project
I have been teaching the Phantom Tollbooth for the last four years and my classes have loved the book. I have students who are now in 8th grade; they still ask me about the book and tell me how much they loved the strange characters. They stated that the lessons that they learned from the book still apply to their education.
Unfortunately, the books are old and, after seeing over one hundred twenty fifth graders, the books are starting to fall apart.
I am looking to replace some of my old books so that I can continue to teach the lessons that the books have to offer.
The main lesson of the book is that students need to appreciate the REAL world around them; this lesson rings truer now to the hearts of students than ever before with the increase of technology and screen time. This book shows students that there is more to the world than a small screen. Students need to explore and learn to appreciate what is around them.
I also need the wireless laser pointer so that I can point to the board from anywhere in my room. It is hard to help thirty students all over the room when I need to be close to my board. I want to be a mobile teacher who can address needs from anywhere in the room.
