This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
There are 16 children in my classroom. My students come from various backgrounds and cultures, and we speak 5 different languages in all, but we all love to play, explore, and test new ideas in and outside the classroom. My favorite thing about my students is their willingness to continue to work on a problem until they solve it!
My students are eager to try new things and willing to experiment.
My goal is to challenge my students' thinking and expose them to new and exciting opportunities they may not have at home. They are always up for the challenge!
My Project
Ask any child about "Pete the Cat" and they will probably all start singing "I love my white shoes, I love my white shoes!" Pete the Cat and His Brand New White Shoes have quickly become a favorite story in our classroom, but there are so many more wonderful stories about Pete the Cat I would like to share with my classroom students!
Being able to retell a story begins children on their journey towards reading comprehension.
By giving students stories they love and can happily retell over and over, we are teaching students about characters, plot, setting, how a story is organized, and comprehension. Using story props, students will be sure to include all the details in each story. Remembering all the details will also encourage them to include lots of details in their own storytelling and picture drawing.
Please help to give my students stories they will love and retell over and over again!
