This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is dedicated to meeting the needs of a population of adults with disabilities who are aged eighteen to twenty-one. The students who attend our school have completed a traditional high school and seek transition services. We provide a robust curriculum to support their vocational, academic and social-emotional needs. Students are empowered and enthusiastic about learning, and that is reflected throughout the school.
Our goal for each student is to gain the skills necessary to become as independent as possible within their communities upon graduation.
My Project
My class is a simulated pet store which gives my special education students a number of amazing opportunities. My students learn how to take care of a large number of pets. Caring for their pets means a lot to my students, and they take pride in helping them. The supplies I'm asking for will help to keep our inventory shelf supplied to meet our pets' needs.
We have hedgehogs, guinea pigs, rabbits, leopard geckos, cockatiels, parakeets, fish tanks, frogs, a tarantula, tortoise, turtles, a corn snake, and an aquaponics system.
My students learn how to take inventory, make toys for our pets, use a pricing gun to price our supplies, and teach their peers how to take care of different pets. Your donation will help to continue the success of my amazing classroom and all it has to offer my students.
