My students are eager beavers! Each day they come to school excited to learn but it's not just because of what they are learning but because of how they are learning. Our district is paving the way to ensure that we are creating learning environments for students that support the change that is happening in education.
My students are thinkers, collaborators, visionaries, problem solvers and communicators but before any of this they are kids.
Just like we eat with our eyes first so do students when it comes to their learning environment. My students want to not only be apart of the change the education is moving in but they also want to learn in an environment that looks like the change. All of my students have a winners attitude and this year I would like to give them a winning environment to learn it because just like the book title "Kids Deserve It"!
My Project
The days of desk in rows are gone! Thank goodness for that, however due to those days being gone our students expect more from us. The motto in my classroom is learn/work where ever and however you feel most most comfortable as long as you are learning and working. My students love this motto because it allows them to learn in the ways that fits them the best. Some students choose to work on the floor some choose to get a fluffy pillow to lie on, some work at their desk, some even grab a beach chair or stool. It is truly an awesome sight to see. Unfortunately this past year I didn't see much of this. Most of these flexible seating options are old, torn, dirty and have been in play for several years in my classroom and now many students choose to sit uncomfortably at their seats versus somewhere they'd actually learn best and it's all because of the condition of the alternative options.
Getting these bean bag chair flexible seating options would really help my students to personalize their learning.
It aligns with the goals of what 21st century learning looks like and what our 21st century learners need. I teach reading and writing. These are subject areas of the arts. My students will be able to use these seating options to read and write around the room. I want my students to enter our room at the start of the year and see that they will get their best learning experience because our room was designed with them in mind first. It will remind them of comfort and family. Most of all it will remind them that school is a place for learning but it is also a place where they can feel comfortable doing so.
