Help me give my students the personalized organization they need to identify their names and materials as well as foster their independence for sucessful day to day activities.
Teaching students with disabilities, including autism, is a new adventure every day! My students come from diverse backgrounds and have a strong need for predictibility. Not only do they work with a highly trained teacher, they work with paraprofessionals, coaches, special area teachers, speech and language therapists, and an occupational therapist. We work together as a team and a community to bring new experiences to our students with disabilities and engage them in activities that bring learning to life.
Students with disabilities not only learn academics, but also learn through social modeling and functional play to increase independent skills.
My students experience learning differences that can be challenging. Some of the students have strong structural and sensory needs and they thrive on knowing what happens next and having skills modeled for them. We work hard to model skills and increase independent functioning.
Even with all the challenges they face, my students still come to school full of energy and ready to learn. Through organization, social modeling, and functional play we plan to address academics, technology, art, and social skills.
My Project
These items will help my students organize their daily materials that they need for various activities. The goal in our class is for students to become independent in day-to-day task. It is important so that they are successful in being a part of their own learning. The baskets will be labeled with students names (and pictures if needed) and items for various students independent task will be put in the baskets. The baskets will be put on the shelves so that students can learn to a identify their name or picture and use the items in the basket to work on their independent task.
