My students are all inquisitive. They are fascinated in the world around them and learn best by field work and lab activities. They enjoy thought provoking, engaging and authentic lessons and projects that require independent research and allow them to develop their problem solving and communication skills.
Because of COVID-19 restrictions, our students do not have the tools they need to collect data, conduct research and develop their problem solving and communication skills.
Our district is urban, and though our students come from many socioeconomic backgrounds, 57% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch, over 65% of our students are minorities and we have a large English Language Learner and Special Ed population. This diversity both enables students to learn from each other and highlights the need for students to demonstrate understanding and learning in a variety of ways, particularly in hands on projects.
My Project
COVID-19 has limited the laboratory and hands on science learning students can do. These materials will enable students to have their own lab kits. Students will receive their very own graduated cylinder, hand lens, pH paper vial, pipets and other essential supplies that were traditionally shared.
Personal lab tool kits will enable students to continue developing their skills without the potential of sharing germs.
Even if we need to return to full distance learning, students will be able to continue continue skill development by using their personal laboratory supplies. Please help support my students' science skill development.
