My Students

My Junior Kindergarten class will be full of 16 bright-eyed, exciting students. They are five-year-olds ready to begin school but are very young. They are excited, full of energy, and have open minds and hearts. Their curiosity is refreshing and their imagination makes me love being around them every day!

My students have a need to develop personal space.

I try my best to accommodate to each young, special learner by giving them a healthy learning environment where they feel physically safe. When students have a sense of security from feeling safe, learning will naturally occur.

My Project

My students learn in many different ways, and I teach them in large and small group settings. Sitting in a large group is our special time to learn as my students have conversations and work on their listening skills. I try to provide my classroom with a colorful place that is visually stimulating without it being overwhelming to them, and we are in need of something we can sit on together.

My students are in need of a classroom carpet where we can meet as a whole group.

Not only does each child need a special spot to sit, but they need clear boundaries that help them establish personal space. In addition to developing a sense of personal space, a classroom carpet with the alphabet on it will help my students develop a sense of letters and letter sounds. They will see the letters many times each day as we meet and sit together. My hope is that they say the names of the objects, developing a sense of beginning sound for each letter.
