Ms. Torres from New Orleans LA is requesting classroom basics through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need erasers, pencils and pencil pouches to carry their high-quality pencils and erasers.

I teach in New Orleans, a city with notoriously underfunded schools and underperforming students. When I first started teaching at this school, I knew I'd found a place where underperforming was not an option. Many of our students live on the edge of poverty. While our students may not have much in the way of material things, they are in a school where every teacher and staff member and administrator knows who they are and pushes them to be their best.
My students are bright and funny and kind, and they deserve every educational opportunity this world has to offer.
Many of their families don't have the financial means to provide the materials or experiences that would help our kids excel. I want to give them every chance to show the world who they are and what they can do. I want to teach the future leaders of this country that anything is possible!
Every teacher knows that pencils disappear mysteriously throughout the day. I've come to find out that equipping each kid with their own fully-stocked pencil pouch creates a sense of ownership and personal responsibility in my students. We need pencil cases stocked with pencils and erasers so that students don't have to waste valuable learning time trying to replace a lost or broken pencil.
For some families, a new pencil case is an easy purchase, but for many of my students, it's a luxury.
I want my students to feel like they are starting the new year off with the tools they need to be successful and productive scholars every day.
