My preschool students are a mixed group with all different abilities, interests and ages (3-5). For many of my students, this is their first time in a school setting. They are learning to explore their environment and they are learning to cooperatively play with other children their own age. Our group of students love to play outside and explore our centers in the classroom.
In this class, we are a family that celebrates everyone and encourage each other.
We build strong relationships with our students and their families because, in preschool, it is very important to work as a team. Family engagement is a huge part of a preschoolers success. Having the home support is a big contributing factor to school success. We incorporate families in our everyday learning (pictures, discussions, questions, etc.). Every year I put a tree up on our wall and invite families to send in their family pictures while my assistant and I bring in ours to add to the tree. This is called our Family Tree so our students and families know we are all a big classroom family and not just a regular classroom without connection.
My Project
Distance learning has been interesting and stressful this year for teachers, parents and students. These materials will allow our students to have their own learning bins in the classroom if we do come back this year. If we do not come back to the classroom, these materials will be sent home for our families to use during distance learning.
These materials will allow my families to focus more on engaging with their children while completing the activities at home.
My students have enjoyed showing their parents what they are learning. They have also enjoyed doing our activities and lessons with their families. For example, they will use a few of these materials in our daily small groups to draw something from the book we read in our large group or another picture after talking about our daily and weekly theme. Even though this year has been tough, our students, even at the ages of 3-5, are still participating daily.
