Help me give my students the basic essentials for personal hygiene. Deodorant isn't something all students can afford and I would love to be able to provide these basic necessities for them.
Located in Honolulu, we are filled with rich Hawaiian history. Our school serves students grades 6-8. There are many luxury apartments surrounding our school, however, the majority of our students currently reside in government and affordable housing complexes or transitional and homeless shelters, while others live with relatives or in multi-generational homes. My students come from diverse backgrounds with multi-languages spoken at home.
In PE, students are competitive and enjoy getting outside and having fun while sweating a lot.
They also have a high level of hormones and body odor they never used to have before and many of them are too embarrassed or poor to buy deodorant. Unfortunately sometimes these odors can be a distraction to learning or a cause for bullying or teasing. I would love to give them the peace of mind of having the personal hygiene essentials they can keep in their backpacks to use during school.
My Project
Kids whose basic personal hygiene needs are met allow for better focus in the classroom and reduces bullying. Kids are embarrassed when they have bad breath or bad body odor. I believe they will focus more when they don't have to worry about their personal hygiene being a distraction.
I would like to put together personal hygiene packs for students, including naturally fresh deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and feminine pads.
Students will be able to use these packs at school and at home. Using these packs will reduce the amount of bullying, increase their self-esteem and help them focus in the classroom.
