My Students
I teach in New Orleans where the day-to-day challenges of the city surpass the classroom. I teach in a city where we sit at the 49th lowest academic performing state in America. I teach at a school wanting to give our kids the world but simply cannot do it financially.
The students I teach are the most amazing kids in the world.
I truly believe that. They are unique, they are smart, and they are going places. I also believe my students are also the most active kids in the world! I teach 7th and 8th-grade special education math, and the majority of my students need small group instruction for attention, hyperactivity, and behavioral support.
My Project
Middle school is the developmental stage where students experience the most change and growth in their body. I've found that middle schoolers often struggle with keeping up with these changes. I'm requesting a bank of personal hygiene products to keep in the classroom so students can focus more on learning and less on their bodies.
Personal hygiene can make or break a child's self-confidence.
Students that aren't completely comfortable in their body are more likely to want to hide and remain unseen in school. By donating to this project, you can help improve students' self-esteem by helping them take care of their personal needs. Some of the items listed are deodorant, toothpaste, sanitary pads, and chapstick.
