Personal Care

My Students

My students are awesome! They come from diverse backgrounds, but they come ready to learn and soak up new experiences. Although our school is in a rural community, we have a diverse population of students. Many of our students are fairly new to our country and are just learning to speak English.

My classroom is a place where kids can come together to learn and have fun regardless of their differences or needs.

Throughout the school year, we work hard to improve academically, socially, and emotionally, and we build relationships within the community.

My Project

My students are at an age when their bodies are changing and personal hygiene is becoming important. Many of my students do not know how to properly take care of their hygiene needs.

These items will be essential for their personal care which will increase their overall self-esteem.

My students have had hygiene lessons in fifth grade and have a puberty education class in sixth grade. Often my students are unaware of their bodies changing and are unable to smell the odors their bodies are omitting. Having personal care items for students to take as needed, reduces not only the stress of asking their parents for needed materials, but also helps students accept and take charge of their bodies in regards to personal hygiene. Students will be so happy to receive these personal hygiene items such as deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, tampons, lotion, and chapstick.

I have also requested dry shampoo, hairbrushes, and hair ties to help teach a few of my students how to take care of their hair. Many students do not have parents at home when they are getting ready for school and do not know how to tame their unruly locks.

It is my hope that students will have more pride in themselves and ultimately perform better in school.

A person's physiological needs must be met in order for them to be ready to learn. These items will boost my students' self-confidence and improve their overall motivation.
