Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are charismatic, dedicated, and avid readers, as long as they have the right book. They live in a low socioeconomic area, and our school is a Title I school, which means that the majority of our students (in our case, more than 95%) receive free lunch because of their family's income. Our school is also a Spanish dual immersion school.
Most of my students are native Spanish speakers and work diligently to develop both their Spanish and English language and literacy skills.
My Project
The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students already have a "home." In other words, I know exactly where everything will go. We just need your help in getting everything through our door! The deodorant, toothbrushes, soap, and other personal care items will all be placed in to hygiene kits for all students in 4th grade. We will give them a presentation on how each item is used and why. These 4th grade students are going through changes that they are barely beginning to notice. They need guidance and some items to help them take care of their body changes.
For many of our students, it is difficult for parents to supply them with the basic hygiene products because they need to prioritize shelter and food.
We want our students know how important it is to take care of ourselves to live a longer and healthier life.
The raisins, crackers and other snacks will be stored in the classroom for when student come to school without having breakfast or a snack for recess. Many students do not always have the means to have a snack before lunch and often are hungry before lunch time comes.
