This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Upon the onset of this pandemic, we were forced out of the classroom without having the opportunity to even say good-bye to our students. We have online programs available that we used during the school session, but resources were available at school. For many of our students, learning ended March 13th because they lack technological devices to continue distance learning. (We conducted a survey.) I attempt to meet with them via Google Classroom twice per week, but only the ones with access can attend (6/17 so far).
We were given instructions to maintain communication with parents and students.
I have one personal computer and no printer in my home with older children. I understood the frustration many parents were feeling immediately.
My Project
Distance learning has become our new norm during this pandemic. However, we as teachers never want our students to stop learning. These materials will assist students in continuing their learning away from the regular classroom.
Many materials that I use daily are still in the classroom.
The items chosen will give me the opportunity to expose my fourth graders to continuous, effective learning while away from the classroom. They will still have an opportunity to hear rich literature as well as practice skills that will help them become productive and well-prepared 5th graders.
