Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My almost 500 students are culturally, ethnically, and academically diverse, coming from all walks of life. Many of the students I work with come from non-native English speaking families and a great number of students in our school come from low-income neighborhoods. I work with students with Autism, students who have learning disabilities and various other difficulties that affect their learning. Despite all the facts listed above, my students are eager to come to school, are motivated and hardworking. They persist through their struggles and many overcome them to make personal growth. They truly have enriched both my career, and my life, and I strive to do the same for them.
My Project
"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." -Thomas Edison
Experiment, Fail, Learn, Repeat: Often when presented with challenging tasks my students want to give up after the first "failure." I want to teach my students that the only true failure is giving up.
I will use the Rubik's cubes to give my students the opportunity to experience failure in a fun, engaging and non-threatening way. The challenges presented will address a multitude of academic and social-emotional areas such as math, science, growth mindset, perseverance and collaboration. Students will use the provided solution guides to experiment, fail, learn and repeat; while learning that the true success is sticking with something that is difficult!
