Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high-poverty school district, my students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to have them appreciate themselves and each other. My students have been dismissed by others as not being able to learn, and it's crucial to let them know that they are capable of learning and succeeding.

Every week, I see all five hundred plus students in the school for art.

We work hard to create and we need some extra support this year. Our budget this year has been halved. Part of it is allocated to the music program. Having received nothing last year, we are working with very little.

My Project

My students love to make bold and bright art. Sometimes, our supplies disappear through no fault of our own. We need more markers to get us through this year!

Our supplies tend to "disappear" between school days and we need enough to work!

Sometimes, we think they've grown legs and walked away.

We mark our markers with Washi tape to keep track of sets and which markers belong to the art room, but it's not enough. We lose markers constantly, and it's not the students who are taking them.

We're ready to move on from Sharpie and find a new dependable brand, so we're ready to give BIC markers a fair shot in our classroom.
