My Students

Public speaking is one of the most difficult life skills that students face. Reader's Theater provides a stepping stone opportunity to develop this skill with confidence.

We have a richly diverse school population with numerous different languages spoken in the home.

Some of the students are quite shy and introverted. There is a need for opportunities to speak slowly and clearly, develop vocabulary, and interact verbally with each other.

My Project

We have three third grade classes of thirty-two students each. We differentiate and group students by need and ability during Language Arts time. Each teacher would like to use Reader's Theater with their groups. Each year a number of students are below basic in reading and could greatly benefit from the Reader's Theater that is a grade level below so they can also experience the success of reading and speaking with confidence.

Independent oral speaking is a difficult task for most students.

However, reading orally in small groups is a step toward building the confidence to speak in front of a group of peers.
