"Education is evolving due to the impact of the Internet. We cannot teach our students in the same manner in which we were taught. Change is necessary to engage students not in the curriculum we are responsible for teaching, but in school." -April Chamberlain
My tech-savvy middle schoolers are digital natives who are eager to utilize technology.
They are deeply connected to their digital devices and are eager to show what they know through the media of technology. They attend a collaborative, engaging and student centered school in California. The students at my school are not allowed to bring digital devices on campus, yet they are bursting with ideas that could be seamlessly shared among, within, and throughout a variety of classrooms and subject areas.
My Project
Using iPod Touches in the classroom will fulfill a variety of needs. These devices will allow students to create, perform, and participate in visual and performing arts. In the area of performing arts, students will utilize the video camera feature of the iPod Touch to create and edit original dramatizations, speeches, and reenactments related to various subject matter.
In the area of visual arts, students will be able to engage in a variety of activities. For example, students might apply artistic processes and skills by using various apps to create a drawing, using varying tints, shades, and intensities.
This project is an effective way to integrate both visual and performing arts into the daily classroom schedule.
Visual and performing arts standards are often overlooked because they are not tested standards. It is my goal to bring these standards to the forefront, and to give students opportunities to be creative.
