I teach fourth grade in a small, rural, central Pennsylvania town. I currently see almost 100 students, more than half of whom are from low income housing. As with most rural districts, we have a very tight budget, but I work to incorporate as many activities as possible into our curriculum. I want to make the experience of learning memorable and am constantly devising new stations, labs and other fun activities to help key ideas stick in my curious students' minds.
Hands-on activities allow my students to fully experience the topic we are discussing.
Rather than simply reading about a science idea, the children live it! This multi-sensory approach anchors the concepts in the minds of my students and has helped them to become some of the top performers in standardized testing in our district.
My Project
We are requesting a Nikon DSLR camera for our new photography club. The kids in my classes are involved with so many different things. We have our metal detecting club, modeling club, and all the activities we do in the classroom. I try to document as much of our life at school as possible. The pictures and videos are shared with parents as well as teachers/students across the country. One thing that would be helpful would be some new equipment for our camera. Our current setup is a cheap little jobbie that doesn't work very well.
New optics would help our clubs and class take our adventures to the next level!
Sharper pictures, higher quality videos and the possibility of a new photography club are in our future if our project is funded.
