Perfect, Purposeful Perches - New Seats for Flexible Seating Classroom
Help me give my students some new places to sit their weary bodies while I work them through their social studies and English studies. My flexible seating classroom is in need of some new seats. These are awesome!
After completely redesigning my room into multiple learning stations and adding some technology recently, I realized that the next step was to get them to share what they learned with others. After adding spaces for them to create new content for the class and show off what they’ve learned it has come back to giving the a solid and comfortable space to be their learning home while in my class.
My students are both seventh and eighth grade public school ELA students.
I have two 7th grade and two 8th grade classes with a pretty even split of boys to girls ratio. Our school is a Title 1 school and has a population with 41% reduced or free lunch. I have a few students that struggle with ADHD but by putting their comfort and that of the other students in the forefront of my classroom design, I will give them a perfect learning environment.
My Project
I did a classroom remodel a couple years ago to allow for my students to have a comfortable place to learn in the classroom no matter what their preferences might have been. Currently I have a pub height table and stools to allow for those wiggle bottomed middle schoolers to either stand or sit and be comfortable while not being a distraction for the any students. I am looking to replace some very worn pieces of furniture in the classroom, and by introducing rocking chairs I will introduce one more option for students prone to need to move during class. These modern seats match computer chairs I had purchased previously, adding to a cohesive and appealing classroom look.
