My students are curious, clever, and full of energy. As a K-8 Music teacher, I have the privilege to work with students as they grow from Kinder to at least 5th grade, with many of them electing to take band in 6th-8th and invest their time into the study of one instrument. Our music program is fairly new and we are situated in a low-income area, leaving us with some serious shortfalls in our instrument inventory. But my students make the most of what we have, singing, dancing, and playing music with enthusiasm.
My students deserve high-quality equipment and instruments.
In our district it is often up to parent groups to fill in budget gaps for these sorts of things, but in our community, that is not a realistic request. I am so excited to enrich their educational experience with new musical equipment.
My Project
These instruments will allow our elementary music students to participate in a percussion ensemble in a way we have never been able to before. With half the class on African drums, and the other half on xylophones, our students will experience the joy of ensemble playing.
These instruments will be far superior to the worn out, uninspiring frame drums we currently have.
Being able to produce a pure, pleasing tone will inspire and motivate our students in music in its own unique way. This will also be the first time they've played brand new xylophones without any missing bars or frame damage.
