We are a school district made up of three smaller, rural cities. Our district is growing this year which means more need for support of the growing student base. There is a mixture of low income and ELL students which means a need for external support.
Our district has great programs in the secondary buildings including great personal-exploration but the district needs to have more exploration for the elementary levels.
The two smaller elementary schools house one section in each grade K-5 and don't have the opportunities for exploration that our large elementary school does due to the size difference. We would like to have more opportunities for the smaller building through makerspaces.
My Project
As a STEM teacher for kindergarten I am always looking for materials for the 106 students I teach. This month we are learning about penguins from their habitat to how they adapt to their surroundings and their movement. These materials will help with our STEM stations.
Students participate in hands-on learning about penguins through 8 stations around STEM concepts.
The stations are understanding why penguins have blubber, how their feathers repel water, how iceberg float when penguins are one them, and how they waddle. These few tools will assist students in discovering more about penguins through the hands-on STEM approach. We appreciate all your support.
