Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hilarious, loving, and helpful second graders, and they could make anyone smile. My students are beginning to grow a great love of learning and reading. They have reached an age in which they are reading to learn instead of learning to read. They are also learning how to have deep, meaningful conversations about books.
My students represent the south side of Chicago.
They come from a low-income neighborhood and are of low socioeconomic status. They live in the Marquette Park neighborhood.
My Project
We need pencils! This school year, we have found that our classroom is quickly running low on pencils. Our school offers a supply day, but it has not been able to give us enough. I have also requested a classroom pencil sharpener because ours was very old and it recently broke. I am hoping that the one that I have chosen for this project is of better quality and will last for many school years. Our class would love to lose the stress of sharpening and looking for pencils to use each day. Our kids are beginning to hoard the pencils that we have left because they know how important that they are to our learning each day.
