Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school saying is, "Better today than yesterday! Better tomorrow than today!" I want to make their tomorrow better!
My class consists of a diverse group of learners.
My class has 26 second grade students of varying abilities. The socio-economic background of our students is reflected by our 97% free or reduced-price lunch rate.
I teach in an urban inner city school rich with diversity. Most of my students need additional learning materials to meet grade level expectations. Please help me to make tomorrow better for them!
My Project
My students are energetic learners. They are very eager to learn about the world around them. They come to school daily so they can try to achieve grade-level standards and succeed.
Having basic supplies is often an issue considering our students due to their socioeconomic level of 97 % free and reduced lunch.
My students come to school without the essentials to help them learn. They also do not have these supplies at home to complete their homework and continue their studies to help them achieve at grade level standards. I buy many of these materials myself on sale before the school year begins but to have enough supplies for 26 learners daily is a huge challenge.
My students use pencils, glue sticks, expo markers, and paper daily at center time for Math and Reading. They use index cards and card stock paper to make word cards and posters about books that they are reading and help them with their on going learning.
Having these basic materials in the classroom and to take home to use for homework will help my students to have the supplies necessary to complete their work to help them learn. The smiles on their faces when they receive a pencil or an eraser or another basic supply to complete their work melts my heart.
