Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is a kindergarten class of 25 students. Most of these students come from low socioeconomic status. Every child in our school receives a free lunch and 50% of my students are bused from East Salinas where crime is high and gang activity is present every day. Our city crime rate is higher compared to our national average.
Even though these students are faced with a difficult city environment, they are full of energy, creativity, and excitement when they enter my classroom.
They are always ready to learn!
Our school is situated in the north part of the city and it has beautiful views of our Salinas Valley. Our community and staff are always ready to help these students. We have created a safe and friendly learning environment!
My Project
Currently, Distance Learning has been a difficult time for many of my students. Many of my families have lost jobs due to our "Shelter in Place" and families are unable to purchase materials in order for the students to complete work on a daily basis. I am requesting such materials as pencils, glue sticks, scissors, journals, and other materials necessary. The materials will be put in a bag and given to each student to take home.
The donations to this project are important because the material can significantly increase student's academic achievement by supporting their needs.
Students will use the material provided in the bag to complete assignments. Parents will not have to worry about materials. The only concern will be to help their child learn and grow!
