Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a diverse school where students come in excited to learn. This year we are fully back in person which brings in a lot of challenges to third graders who have not had a "normal" schoolyear since first grade.
We have students from all over the city, some who have known the school for years, and others who are brand new.
My goal is to reach all of them by meeting them wherever they may be.
My Project
A pencil in a math classroom is the single most powerful tool. Many pencils in my classroom have been shortened to an inch. Even those pencils receive the love of being used for their work.
With these pencil supplies, my students can continue demonstrating their best work.
In addition to the basics, students in my classroom enjoy getting special pencils and erasers as prizes for points earned - via helping others, teamwork, and respect etc. Student choice, even with something as simple as a pencil, is a compelling means of motivation.
