This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is a public school serving Chicago's Homan Square community. A mission of urban education is to empower youth to thrive in college and careers by giving them access to quality resources and an innovative teaching staff.
I know my students will be motivated to learn more rigorous math by earning healthy snacks.
Further, this project will help my classroom immensely by providing my students with pencils. This is also an important year for my junior students and they are constantly reminded that the SAT test is approaching quickly. There will be several opportunities for my students to stay after and receive extra SAT tutoring. The former means that students will be at school longer and thus will need additional snacks to fuel their bodies!
My Project
I've previously had a donorschoose.org project funded for healthy snacks and it made a world of difference in my classroom. Throughout the day, research shows that students should refuel their bodies with healthy snacks. But it's a challenge logistically and on my budget for me to keep buying the snacks for the students.
This is an important school year for my students as they have an opportunity to take the SAT test, while beginning to think about applying to colleges.
I want to complete this project so that the students will have enough pencils and more snack options for working hard and challenging themselves in the classroom.
