My Students

I am a first grade teacher at an inner city school. I am privileged to work with 25 amazing children who are eager to learn and use any learning tools they are given. My students have a tremendous amount of learning to do in this upcoming year, and most of it happens from repetition and practice, which means we use pencils and go through A LOT of erasers.

This is my seventh year teaching at an inner city school.

Before school started my first year of teaching, I asked for pencils and was told that "pencils are a luxury." Therefore I went out and bought all of the classroom supplies for my students. As I always do, this year I went out and bought pencils and markers for all of my kids, but my supplies are running out.

My Project

New supplies of pencils and erasers will help students concentrate on learning and not on who still has a pencil with an eraser to borrow. It will also send them the message that they are important and deserve to have nice materials for their important first grade work. My students have the enormous task of learning to read and write in the coming year. I ordered enough erasers and pencils to finish out this year and should last me most of next year.
