"The artist is nothing without the gift, but the gift is nothing without work." These talented art students are very motivated and self-directed. With time and development of the basics, their work expands into highly recognized individual, gallery-quality projects. They deserve quality materials.
Our students have all been assessed as talented, and therefore, they dive into art with enthusiasm.
Small classes and lots of individual time and attention have allowed most to develop into very skilled and creative individuals. Control of media and understanding that with different brands or types of materials, comes new challenges and successes.
Our students are part of a Title 1 school that has a limited art budget, but a supportive administration. We constantly work to improve the environment, the diversity of creative options, and the opportunities for recognition and artistic successes.
My Project
Discovering how quality materials impact the final products is an important aspect of our art classes. Offering the experiences of using various types of pencils in both sketching and detailed drawings helps with the problem solving skills that art offers. Strong contrast and working white on black are areas that we began exploring and we have seen become successful. These various pencils and papers allow more experimentation and development of stronger drawing and observation skills with materials that should reflect a permanence and archival quality.
Great drawing and sketch materials allow students to develop broader ranges of values, textures, and detail.
The materials selected are beyond the typical writing pencils and will allow students the chance to see how strength in values in what they observe can translate into strong and dynamic drawings. Both the Ebony pencils and the white pencils offer a taste of what professional artists often have at their disposal.
