This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
In this urban city in Michigan, students have challenges growing up in a population of an emerging community struggling to find their place in the "American Dream". My students live in neighborhoods that are decaying or their families are being pushed out because of the cost of living. Students are severely impacted by the economy where healthy food and housing is scarce.
My Padawans (future Jedi) are working for greater achievement and they are learning to stand strong for a better life.
Our students need resources that support a love of learning. We need your help to provide our classes with basic supplies to encourage a lifetime of reading and math exploration.
My Project
Our students need to interject more art into their mathematics. Art and math go hand in hand. My students will use these resources to make "how to" posters to better understand math problem solving strategies and illustrations that help them understand different concepts. Often, getting supplies are problematic and in short availability. Having these jumbo pencils will make drawings and writing simpler. The chart paper is a great way to display math artwork and informational "how to" work. These posters will be placed in class around our floor to promote math and as a tool to prepare our students for our state test.
