This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are amazing, marvelous and challenging on many levels. They come to school excited, eager to experience an exciting lesson. I often refer to them jokingly as “challenging customers” that refuse to accept second best. As I try my best to provide an excellent customer service to my clientele, I find that it is never enough to just teach.
It is a journey to discover how best to serve every single one of my students and get them ready for college and for life, and I am enjoying the ride.
Our school is a Title I school in Atlanta where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students are facing many socioeconomic challenges that hinder their academic success. As I observe them interact with one another, enthused in a lesson, I regain my conviction that a future is possible and achievable for all my students.
My Project
"Ms.Exume, can I get a pencil ?" or "Ms.Exume, can I sharpen my pencil?". My response to this unfortunately is always "I'm sorry, I don't have one"This is how a typical day starts off in my classes.
In the beginning of the year my students are usually equipped with the writing materials to learn but as time goes on they lose their pens and pencils and are unable to partake in class activities without these materials.
Not having these necessary classroom materials is negatively affecting my students willingness to learn. I want to get these supplies to pencil them in to success.
