Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a Title I school in a highly poverty stricken area of NYC. The students, predominantly Hispanic and Black, are burdened with more responsibilities than can be imagined, yet they come to school each day and try to learn the lessons in front of them. The students' and their parents' lives are plagued with the harsh reality of life and poverty and many times the task of putting food on the table has to take precedence over school. This hardship can cause a lack of focus and create a stressor that makes it nearly impossible to harness the students' abilities.
My Project
It is rather difficult to accomplish your classroom tasks without the tools to do so. Pencils are of the utmost importance in a classroom setting and having to do without makes it very difficult to complete assignments. These simple tools ensure that students voices are heard and thoughts are clear.
My students need pencils to complete their classwork.
Of course, pencils are essential in the daily routines such as writing and math. The pencils are simple tools that the students will use to convey their ideas, express their emotions, and even partner with their classmates by giving feedback on assignments.
Give my students the tools that help them to become more effective and efficient in their own learning process.
Please give them the pencils that they need for use in the classroom throughout their lessons.
