Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a dedicated bunch of 4th graders who believe that education is their way to better their lives. All of these students are on a free breakfast, lunch and snack program. These children have a set "safe path" to walk on to get to and from school. They know that they will be out of harms’ way when they stay on this protected path. Imagine walking to school in that manner every day? Many of these kids have perfect attendance or close to it. They know that an enriched education will help advance their futures.
These school-children have a desire to be educated in all aspects of reading and literacy especially within the fields of math and science.
They should be able to go anywhere in the world because they will have a great education, and not have to settle.
My Project
Success is a word that is crucial with my 4th grade student. Pencils are such a basic need to attain this task. Next is the paper, where some notebooks can seem so overwhelming with so many pages. Finally, a pencil sharpener will allow for continued progress throughout the days.
My students want to place their prized written collective work into their ongoing portfolio, but they can't place a large bulky note book in it.
Using the smaller, numbered paged, notebooks allow my children to reflect back on their work, as well as present it to administration on a regular basis. They need to be able to go to their portfolio and feel successful. The readily available pencils will eliminate the excuse of not having proper material.
