Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school was severely affected by Hurricane Harvey. We are still in the process of rebuilding and organizing our classrooms. After the flooding nearly 100% of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. Our Literacy Lab was not spared by any means and I am currently in the process of organizing our Guided Reading books. I would like to provide our teachers and students with a working Literacy Lab. This will allow teachers easy access to materials needed to use for their guided reading groups.
My Project
Guided Reading groups is an integral part of a balanced literacy classroom, but at this time our books are stashed in boxes and not easily accessible to teachers and students. I would like to use the magazine holders to sort the books into the appropriate reading levels. The books will be sorted using Fountas and Pinnell's guided reading levels. They will be sorted in sets of six and placed in a resealable clear plastic bag and each book set will be labeled with the book title, reading level, and magazine holder box number. This will make reshelving easy for teachers and staff.
