As schools and society look more closely at the fitness of students in all grades, I would like to encourage my fourth graders to set and track exercise goals. Each student can track personal, class, and school walking/running goals by incorporating technology and math skills required by the state curriculum. With the purchase of 30 pedometers that measure steps as well as distance, students can log their accomplishment each day in a spreadsheet on the computer. This data will then be available to use during math as we learn data and graphing skills all year. Students will have a better understanding of how a spreadsheet works if they use one regularly to input data. The materials purchased for this project are not consumable and can be used for several years. Thank you for considering this opportunity for my students!
