This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is in an underfunded urban school district in PA. The students experience the effects of poverty on a regular basis. Our goal for this year is to provide various bikes for students within the school community. As an incentive, bikes can improve school attendance and promote health and wellness. Bikes will be provided to our students as a reward for perfect attendance and give ownership to those that otherwise do not have the experience of owning or riding a bike.

My Project

Daily attendance is important in school. Learning requires a student to be part of the learning community. Healthy children need to be physically active to learn and students need to learn ways to be physically active. Having bikes as an incentive for perfect attendance for a full semester will encourage students to come to school to earn a ticket in a bike raffle for the end of the year. Students who earn the bikes will develop a sense of pride in their accomplishment and will be provided with a bike to keep them physically active throughout the school year and summer months.
