Peculiarity with Purpose

My students need copies of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children to read and annotate whilst learning about the world and how to interact appropriately with people from a variety of cultures with different abilities.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

MHS is a public high school in Dallas that serves nearly 2500 students. My kids are in desperate need of a broader view of the world. Many of them have never been outside of our neighborhood and they have no concept of the wider world with all of it's magical opportunities.

My students are clever and eager learners despite their challenges.

They make such efforts for those that believe in them. They are in need of more people invested in their success.

My Project

I am requesting copies of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children for each of my students. We will read a section each day in class to help them feel comfortable with public speaking and modeling tone and affect for their peers. To increase their individual responsibility, they will take their books home and finish the selections each day, returning the next day with contributions to class discussions and feedback. We will center our writing projects in the first semester on empathy and kindness and treating others as we wish to be treated. This book is a great example of that.

These books will help my students be more fluent readers and better citizens of the world.
