Our district is a county-wide, pre-k through 12th grade school, comprised of students from eight neighboring towns. There is an unmistakable small-town feel when you enter our building. The support from our community is unbelievable! Our district's music program for band and choir was cut approximately nine years ago due to unfortunate budget cuts. Over the past few years, the majority of the remaining musical equipment has disappeared.
After not having a music program for nearly nine years, our district restarted the program from scratch in January 2019!
With the support of our community, we have been able to raise some funds to purchase items that are desperately needed to run the program. We have around 120 fourth through twelfth-grade band students and around 35 junior high and high school choir students! We are all working so hard to make this program amazing once again!
My Project
Music has been an inspiration for many students in our district. We have only had our music program for a short time and already have a large number of students. Percussion seems to be a very popular choice when choosing an instrument to play. We have raised funds to purchase new and used bass drums so that we will have enough for our students to play the instrument of their choice.
With the ongoing pandemic, band has taken some hard hits.
We must play all music outdoors and students can not share equipment. I have assigned certain pieces of equipment to certain students to use daily without spreading germs. We are still in need of bass drum stands to help reduce the spread of germs.
