Welcome to Room 214! Room 214 is a special place where each student, no matter what challenges they live with, are able to learn and succeed at school! Some of our friends are able to walk, some need a wheelchair or a walker to get around. Some of our friends can speak, some of our friends need switches or sign language to communicate. Some of our friends are working on reading and writing, some of our friends are just beginning to realize how to use their hands as tools. But in Room 214, none of that matters!
We do not pay much attention to our limitations, whether they are physical or cognitive because in Room 214 everyone has a chance to learn, just like in any other classroom .What matters most in Room 214 is that we are all here to learn together and and work hard.
Some of Room 214's friends have been working hold a pencil, walking, and speaking for years but it truly doesn't matter since we have our whole life to learn. Help us make Room 214 even better!
My Project
Since my students are often affected by physical disabilities, they are not able always able to access traditional tables and chairs. Furthermore, the school playground is difficult to navigate and many times some of my students are left in a wheelchair to watch other children play. It is also essential that my students get a break from their wheelchairs and a chance to safely stretch and independently move. Currently in our room we already have two peapods but they are sadly deflating and are re-inflated everyday as they are essential to our classroom.
Peapods give my students a safe place for rest and positioning and the extra sensory input that they sometimes miss by not being able to access many everyday childhood experiences.
It is always my goal to try to give my students every chance so even a little thing like a cozy place to rest, stretch and practice how to move their bodies can make a big difference to them!
