Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a school that is in the middle of a very diverse neighborhood. Some of my students come from a single family home, and many come from apartment homes. We are in a very populated part of the city where my students live in a single parent home or a home with two working parents.
Even through these challenges, our students love to learn and crave a place to come, where they have multiple chances to succeed.
They are always eager to learn, and I love giving them different opportunities and avenues to see them do just that. Their love for reading is so apparent, and I am excited to give them opportunities to read a diverse set of books.
My Project
My students love our newly refurbished library, but our book choices are very scarce. I have a wide range of readers in my class. Some students read at a 2nd grade level, while some are reading at a 7th grade level. The choices we have in our library don't fall in this reading range, which makes it difficult for them to read something in their particular level.
Adding these high-interest books to our library will really expand my students' reading choices.
They will really be able to find a book that suits them, and that they enjoy. Students will grow as readers, and increase their reading levels while enjoying the books in our classroom library.
Finding a book that interests my students is very important for fourth graders, since they are required to meet a point goal for their Reading grade. These books will help get them to their goals since they are all widely ranged in reading level. This way, students won't struggle to find a book that suits both their interest, and their reading level.
