My students need subscriptions to Scholastic News to help integrate current events, science and social studies into our learning in a fun way.
My classroom is located in an urban district. My students come ready to learn, but present multiple learning abilities and home struggles. My job is to provide a safe, welcoming, and encouraging environment so that my students can learn to the best of their abilities. This will be my second year teaching third grade. I want my students to come to school with the drive to learn and have the tools they need in order to learn. My goal is to provide a stress free, fun, and friendly learning environment.
One way to provide a classroom that focuses on the different learning abilities my students present is to expose them to different materials.
Not all children learn the way we teach, so we should teach the way they learn. The students need options and the chance to make their own choices in their learning. Being in an urban district funds are limited. By providing my students various ways to learn and practice skills, I will be providing a solid foundation that they can carry through and apply during their entire education.
I believe that using Scholastic News in the classroom will allow my students to learn about a variety of topics in a fun, new way. This will be my second year teaching third grade and I am looking for more ways to incorporate more current events, Science and Social Studies into our daily curriculum. This year my students will be given chromebooks. I like that Scholastic News has an online component which would allow me to reach and meet all the needs of my students.
It is my hope that Scholastic News will foster my students' willingness to learn.
By providing each student with a copy of the magazine, I hope to keep my students eager and excited to learn while reading non-fiction articles based on current events.
