My Students
We are Investigators! I want to provide my students with exciting experiences across all content areas.
I am the blessed teacher of 16 bright, inquisitive first graders.
They never cease to amaze me with their fearless attitude when it comes to learning new things. Our school is located in a low-socioeconomic area. Although our school district does everything it can to provide as many resources as possible for our students, often the resources I would like to provide for my students are simply unavailable.
My Project
The materials in this project will be utilized to help students understand their emotions, develop tools and strategies to support themselves when stressed or overwhelmed, and make conscious and productive choices. Throughout the school year, we will read many of the Ninja Life Hacks books and focus on skills that some first graders are just now learning to manage. As the year progresses we will revisit the books in whole group, in small group, or with individual students with the help of our Behavior Specialist. We will work together to set up a safe space where students can go when they need a break or time to reflect.
By using these tools we can help students become more aware of their emotions so they can make choices that will help them feel safer, in control, and ready to learn.
In turn, these tools and the learning that goes with them will help students be more productive members of the classroom community, as well as in their respective communities outside of school.
