This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Thank you for letting me introduce you to my students! I work at a Title I school in southwestern Virginia. Our school is considered Title I due to extreme poverty. All of my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Despite their challenges, my students come to school ready to learn.
My classroom is composed of many different backgrounds—my students speak English, Spanish, Somalian, Dari, and a little Haitian Creole.
Unfortunately, we have students in our classroom who experience homelessness too. I strive to make the classroom the BEST possible environment to make this a "safe" place to learn!
My Project
I am requesting several things to put a little new life into my classroom!
For some of my students, the 35 hours a week we spend in the classroom is the best "home" environment they have.
My decor has been through a few years of wear and tear, and I'm hoping to freshen the place up a little bit. I am also teaching SCIENCE this year (woohoo!), so I'd like a few content related posters to use in science units.
I am hoping the calm, easy colors I've chosen will reflect the enviroment the students will be walking into. I want them to feel like this is a place to grow and thrive!
