My Students

My students from the Detroit metro area are part of a blossoming Positive Behavior Intervention and Support program (P.B.I.S). This unique program gives children from our school an opportunity to identify and understand their feelings and incorporate emotional regulation strategies so they can feel comfortable, safe, and successful in an educational environment. Our enthusiastic and energetic kiddos enter this classroom each and every day eager to grow and explore new paths towards emotional health. Their ability to persevere is remarkable.

My Project

For those with heightened emotional sensitivities there is a significant need for a peaceful space to rest and regroup throughout the day. Many students are still developing the stamina required to make it through an eight hour school day successfully. I have selected a space to become our cozy corner where my amazing kiddos can go to collect themselves and prepare to return to schoolwork.

This rug will surely provide comfortable flooring for our beanbags to sit on and will be a welcomed change from the cold linoleum tiles that make up our classroom floor.

I have seen how just five minutes in spaces like this can have a positive effect and completely change the demeanor of a child under emotional duress.
