Help me give my students an organized classroom with storage that includes learning tools. A literacy display and a variety of flexible seating will let them access learning as they stay alert and engaged.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students in my classroom are inquisitive, energetic, and creative. They come from an inner city public school and some don’t have a stable home environment. I would like to create a culture in my room that encourages comfort, stability, participation, and success through a student-led,stable yet flexible (seating) environment. With all this energy and excitement I need to find ways to keep them focused and concentrated yet engaged and alert. This bubbly group of kids just need focus and they can do wonders!
My Project
Many of my energetic students find it difficult to sit still for short periods of time and flexible seating would improve their stamina and keep them actively engaged in their learning. My students will be encouraged to take their learning into their own hands and make smart choices for themselves to be the leaders they need to be to succeed. They will choose from a variety of flexible seating so they can be attentive in whole group, in partners or individually. The learning chart/ literacy display will let the students work in small problem solving teams together and have all supplies on hand to be successful. Creating an environment of choice and variation in a learning environment that is student-focused, rather than teacher-focused creates strong leaders.
