My school is one of the truly diverse public schools in New Orleans, a real reflection of the city and its people. Our school offers the Montessori program and, therefore we free the child's potential and aim for lasting peace and a love for learning.
My classroom is unique; it is an all kindergarten version of an early childhood Montessori classroom.
However, I am AMS Early Childhood certified and incorporate and use as much of Montessori practices and ideology as possible. We have practical life, sensorial, language/reading, math, geography, and cultural studies areas in the classroom. During work time, the students are free to choose and receive lessons in all areas.
Ms. J is my fabulous TA, and we are a community above all, respecting and taking care of one another. Their curiosities are bursting at the seams and luckily, we are encouraged as teachers to invest in our students' interests.
My Project
This project is focused on building respect and peace education for a classroom of kindergarten students. Tolerance is defined as acceptance of those whose opinions, beliefs, practices or origins differ from one's own and freedom from biology. With a diverse classroom, tolerance, peace, acceptance and respect is essential for us to function. Thankfully, Montessori education is centered around it.

This project specifically funds: age-appropriate yoga/meditation calming cards and activity kit, literature about: the power of words, mindful mantas, social emotional learning, consent, empathy, compassion and peace, & peace corner items (an area that allows students to calm down and feel safe).
Help plant the seeds of peace and respect for these 26 kindergarten students.
