Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students from grades Third to Fifth are starting a brand new teaching method which will be project based learning. Each year, a new grade level will be added until the whole school becomes a project based learning campus.
Even though our school is a Title 1 school and most of our students come from a low social economic status, they are curious, enthusiastic, and creative; and eager to immerse themselves in any kind of challenge.
Our students have all the tools needed to make this new program work and will meet all the expectations for this program to be successful.
Even though this new method will be challenging for them at first, I am confident that this program will give our students an opportunity to learn the skills in a hands- on experience.
My Project
We are requesting water marbles, dot painters, design rollers, squeeze bottles, drawing paper, construction paper and more. The materials requested will help set up peace corners in the classrooms so that students can have a place to reflect on their feelings and emotions by making creative art and having sensory materials to manipulate to help them with their social and emotional feelings.
Once they complete a project, the student will be able to continue with the class with more confidence.
The peace corners will be a required component of the new project based learning curriculum in our school. Having appropriate grade level material will make a difference in organizing the peace corners appropriately. The materials will be sorted according to grade level and put in baskets and then placed in the classrooms for students to use.
