I teach physical education at an elementary school where my students come from a diverse population. Our school has two multi-handicap classes, two emotionally disturbed classrooms, one classroom with "English as the Second Language," plus 27 regular classrooms which all participate in physical education. Fifty percent of our student population is on free or reduced lunch where backpacks of food is sent home on the weekends.
My students are energetic and love to move in my gymnasium.
To keep them engage, I try to provide lessons that are motivating and interesting to all my students. They enjoy activities that keep them moving and learning.
My Project
I am always looking for creative ways to make physical education exciting and engaging for my students. The balance beam and balance boards will help my students in developing coordination. Lacrosse is becoming a fast-growing sport in our part of the state, and I believe they will be excited to begin learning the sport through the use of the lacrosse set. The four-square balls will be a big hit because that game is one of their favorites and they are always asking to play.
I believe these new teaching tools will help my students develop not only physically, but also build self-confidence by challenging themselves with a new skill and encourage socialization through teamwork.
